Cactus
| These cactus are called "opuntia." On different islands they have different types of needles and different outer coating (which looks like the bark of a tree). On islands with tortoises, the cactus will grow taller and develop a thick outer "bark" that will resist the tortoise. On islands with no tortoises, but land iguanas, the cactus can grow lower, but they develop heavy thorns to discourage the iguanas. On islands with no land iguanas, the thorns on the cactus are so soft that they feel like hair. |
